Outdoor Leader is the foundation award for those leading groups in New Zealand.
SCOPE: This award is for those who organise and lead day tramps on clearly formed tracks and lead overnight camps close to road or track ends. Groups may be using tents, huts, or outdoor centres.
Those holding this award are able to provide safe outdoor leadership and an enjoyable and stimulating learning experience within the scope of the Outdoor Leader syllabus.
The syllabus should be read in conjunction with the Outdoor Leader assessment tasks which are available below.
Outdoor Leader Award is a joint award created and owned by EONZ, the New Zealand Mountain Safety Council (MSC), and the New Zealand Outdoor Instructors Association (NZOIA). Candidates should prepare themselves through reading, training and experiencing the leadership role.
Where a candidate feels the need to undertake a training course they should consider the training programme and/or approaching a regional EONZ committee or the EONZ Executive Officer.
